The referee was eager to…

Following Sheffield United’s 1-0 loss to Charlton Athletic, manager Chris Wilder spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield:

On Japhet Tanganga’s red card: “It’s absolutely absurd – it should have been a yellow at most. He was going for a header, focused on the ball, and simply mistimed his challenge – that’s a yellow card offense.

“The referee was far too quick to pull out the red card. It was astonishing how fast he made that decision, without consulting the fourth official or the linesman who was right there.

“In the second half, they committed numerous cynical fouls, which I understand when we were trying to get back into the game.

“I felt confident with us being 11 against 10, though it became tougher when it went down to nine. Nevertheless, we put in a strong effort – the team’s organization and work rate were commendable.”
