Girona Manager Thrilled…

On Tuesday, Girona completed the loan signing of Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen for the remainder of the season. The 33-year-old has joined Montilivi in search of much-needed game time ahead of the upcoming World Cup, where he is anticipated to be Germany’s starting goalkeeper.

Following Dominik Livakovic’s decision to return to Fenerbahce, Girona began their search for a new goalkeeper. They explored various options, with Ter Stegen emerging as a top contender expected to replace Paulo Gazzaniga as the first-choice keeper.

Ter Stegen met his new teammates and manager on Wednesday. According to Diario AS, Michel Sanchez warmly welcomed the German international during their initial meeting.

“You’re going to see a great dressing room. It’s very healthy here. You’re a leader, too, and you’ll bring us a lot. I’m really happy to have you,” he said.

Ter Stegen’s Crucial Months Ahead

Ter Stegen joins a Girona team on a winning streak, having secured three consecutive victories in La Liga. They are looking to extend this run against Getafe on Monday, where he is expected to make his debut in place of Gazzaniga.

The upcoming months are pivotal for Ter Stegen as he strives to demonstrate his ability to perform at a high level. If he succeeds, it’s likely he will earn a starting spot for Germany at the World Cup. However, if he encounters difficulties, he may find himself benched for yet another major tournament—a setback that would be significant as he approaches the latter stages of his playing career.
