Inter Milan Legend Lauds…

Yann Sommer has faced scrutiny following several lackluster performances this season.

Nonetheless, the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper remains Cristian Chivu’s preferred option in goal, ahead of Josep Martinez.

Despite being the starter, Sommer is expected to depart Inter at the season’s end, as his contract expires in June and the club is hesitant to offer him a renewal.

Moreover, Beppe Marotta is actively searching for potential successors.

Targets include Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario, along with several other goalkeepers.

Noah Atubolu from Freiburg and Cagliari’s Elia Caprile are also on Inter’s radar.

However, former Inter player Gianluigi Donnarumma from Manchester City remains the club’s ultimate aspiration.

Bergomi commented, “Opposition teams are well aware that Inter heavily relies on their goalkeeper.”

“I think back to the Champions League final, or Arsenal, who pressed the goalkeeper every time the ball was played back,” he added.

“Unlike Milan, Inter must build from the back and maintain control,” he explained.

“They lack counter-attacking players, but instead, they have players designed for buildup play.”

“Their style can be mesmerizing, but they need to play this way for effectiveness.”

“While avoiding unnecessary risks is ideal, someone like Sommer is far too valuable for Inter.”

Lastly, he praised Inter’s defensive structure under Chivu, stating, “Inter concedes very few chances, but when they do, they’re often crucial.”

Sommer is expected to be on the pitch for Wednesday’s critical UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.
