The future of Vinicius Jr. is sparking conversations once more, with Flamengo openly expressing their willingness to discuss a potential return to the Brazilian club.
While there are no immediate plans for a transfer, the South American club’s remarks have intensified an already delicate situation surrounding the Real Madrid forward.
Vinicius has been part of Real Madrid since 2018 after leaving Flamengo in 2017, hailed as one of South America’s most promising young talents.
Now, nearly a decade later, the winger is facing one of the toughest stretches of his Madrid career.
Despite his numerous accomplishments at the club, he has faced boos from some sections of the crowd at Santiago Bernabeu, and his long-standing goal drought in La Liga has only recently come to an end.
Flamengo Leaves the Door Open
Flamengo is aware of Vinicius’s current challenges and believes that a return to Brazil could provide him with the love and support reminiscent of his formative years.
The club acknowledges, however, that any potential move hinges on the player’s desire to return.
During Lucas Paqueta’s presentation, Flamengo’s director of football, Jose Boto, addressed the topic, stating the club’s position clearly.

“His contract is nearing its end. He recently sent me a thoughtful gift, an autographed jersey.
“We can only pursue players like him if they actually want to return. The decision relies more on Vinicius than on us. Our doors will always be open for him.”
Uncertainty Surrounding His Contract
Vinicius’ current contract with Real Madrid runs through 2027. By that time, he will be nearing 27 and would have spent over a decade at the Bernabeu—a rare tenure for a modern superstar.
From Flamengo’s viewpoint, this could be the perfect moment.
Boto elaborated on the contract situation, emphasizing the financial aspects of a potential return.
“His contract is close to expiration, meaning we won’t have to pay Real Madrid anything.”
This detail may explain why speculation surrounding his return is likely to persist.
Unless Vinicius solidifies his long-term commitment to Real Madrid with a new deal, chatter about a possible homecoming will continue to rise.
