Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is expected to make a decision regarding his future by mid-March.
The 26-year-old has been contemplating his next steps for several months, indicating that he wants to assess Dortmund’s potential to compete for titles before committing to a contract extension with the club.

The current situation may be complicated by the backlash regarding his post-match remarks about pursuing league leaders Bayern Munich.
Schlotterbeck is anticipated to finalize his decision on whether he will remain at Signal Iduna Park or move on by mid-March.
If he opts to stay with Dortmund, he could have a release clause estimated at €60 million, which might decrease to €50 million if Niko Kovac’s team fails to secure a Champions League spot.
Schlotterbeck’s Two Options:
The 26-year-old faces two viable paths for his future. The first is to remain with Dortmund and extend his contract past 2027.

The second possibility is to sign with Real Madrid. The Spanish club has shown genuine interest in Schlotterbeck, especially given the uncertain futures of fellow defenders Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, along with Eder Militao’s injury issues.
However, Madrid will hold off on making any transfer decisions until a new head coach is appointed for the upcoming season.
