Swindon Town’s leading scorer, Aaron Drinan, is capable of reaching the highest levels of football, according to manager Ian Holloway, following the striker’s new contract agreement with the club.
Drinan has committed to an extended deal with the League Two promotion contenders, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028, after netting 24 goals across all competitions this season.

The 27-year-old, who joined Swindon from Leyton Orient in January 2024, was the subject of a bid from another club during the winter transfer window, an offer that Holloway confirmed the Robins rejected.
“It’s not every day you receive a £400,000 offer for a player, and as a club, it’s important to uphold your standards—if you turn down an offer, you should reward them,” Holloway shared with BBC Radio Wiltshire.
With 18 league goals this season, Drinan leads in scoring among all players in the top four divisions of English football, second only to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who has 22.
“He’s always had speed, but now his timing and understanding of when to make runs are exceptional. His mental game is improving rapidly,” Holloway remarked.

“Aaron’s progress in this aspect has been extraordinary, and that’s why I’m confident he can reach any level. I’ve encouraged him to remain with us because he enjoys it here, the fans appreciate him, and we’re building a strong team that will support him with great passes.”
Drinan himself expressed that deciding to stay for another two and a half years at the County Ground was an “easy” choice.
“This club has aspirations for promotion, and so do I. We’re in a really positive position right now,” he said. “The club’s goals align with mine, which makes it a straightforward decision.”
