Exeter City 1 – 1 Wycombe Wanderers FT

In his first match as interim manager, Dan Green saw Exeter City secure a last-minute equalizer against Wycombe Wanderers thanks to Jayden Wareham’s timely strike.

Green took over the Grecians following Gary Caldwell’s move to Wigan earlier this week, and he witnessed an encouraging performance from his team at St James Park.

Wycombe took the lead in the 22nd minute with their initial shot on goal. Ewan Henderson found Fred Onyedinma in the box, allowing the striker to round Exeter’s goalkeeper, Joe Whitworth, and slot the ball into an empty net.

Exeter finished the first half on a high note, with Pierce Sweeney directing a header from an Ethan Brierley cross straight at Wycombe keeper Will Norris.

At the beginning of the second half, Ryan Rydel tested Norris with a powerful shot that he managed to palm away.

As Exeter pressed for an equalizer, they struggled to penetrate a resolute Wycombe defense.

However, just as five minutes of stoppage time was indicated, Wareham delivered a well-placed header from Akeel Higgins’ cross into the corner of the net.

In a frantic ending, substitute Timur Tutierov had a chance to snatch a victory for Exeter but unfortunately hit the side netting.
