Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, expressed that while he enjoys engaging with fans, there are instances when he feels “exposed” and “uncomfortable.”

A recent video captured a scene after the Gunners’ FA Cup victory against Wigan on Sunday, showing a man who persistently asked for Arteta’s autograph while he and his wife were stuck in traffic outside the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta chose not to open his window as more fans gathered around the vehicle. The man continued to follow the car, expressing his desire for Arteta to sign an Arsenal jersey for his son.

“I always strive to be respectful,” Arteta stated. “I love signing and taking photos whenever possible; it’s a part of our role. However, there are security concerns we must consider, particularly when some individuals aren’t approaching for the right reasons.”

Previously, Arteta and his wife were recorded while in traffic after a Champions League game in October, with his wife reportedly feeling “frustrated” and “annoyed” when someone attempted to take a selfie next to their car.

“What was reported about my wife during that last incident was completely inaccurate and unfair,” Arteta commented.

“I prefer to highlight the wonderful fans who genuinely want to connect, as I am always pleased to interact with them. However, there are situations and contexts that make this difficult. At those moments, we need someone to help ensure our safety, as being unable to move from the car can be unsettling.”

It has been noted that part of Arsenal’s security protocol advises the manager, players, and coaching staff against rolling down their car windows while driving.
