Recently, Łukasz Fabiański revealed that Everton made an attempt to sign him during the last summer transfer window. In an interview with the Polish outlet WP SportoweFakty, as reported by Sport Witness, the goalkeeper elaborated on how the Merseyside club reached out right after West Ham initially released him. He was briefly a free agent before returning to the Hammers in September 2025. During that interim period, David Moyes approached him with a tangible offer.
Fabiański Discusses Everton’s Interest Following West Ham Departure
Everton viewed the former Polish international as an ideal backup for Jordan Pickford, largely due to their successful prior collaboration at the London Stadium, where Fabiański featured in 153 matches under the Scottish manager. This made him a low-risk, solid option for a team seeking a reliable second-choice goalkeeper.

Fabiański also mentioned interest from his former club, Legia Warsaw, but ultimately chose to remain in London to maintain stability for his family. He admitted that his initial plan was to retire following last season, but the events of the summer prompted him to reconsider.
“I received several offers, including from Everton for a backup role, and there was contact from Legia, but my family and I opted not to relocate. I recall having a conversation last season with my family and the people at West Ham where I thought I’d play one more season and then retire. The summer changed my perspective on that.”
“Our priorities have shifted. January was a busy month for us in terms of transfer activity. We will need to wait until the end of the season for a clearer picture of our direction.”
Despite this shift in mindset, things have been quiet for Fabiański under Nuno Espírito Santo, as he has yet to make an appearance due to an injury he sustained in September. His contract is set to expire in June, and he’s remaining patient as the club addresses other concerns.

Should Everton Opt for an Experienced Keeper or a Young Talent?

David Moyes has managed to stabilize Everton, with the team now aiming for a top-half finish at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Jordan Pickford remains the undisputed first-choice for both his club and England. However, the interest in Fabiański indicates a desire for veteran leadership within the squad.
At 40, the former Poland keeper offers a calming presence, something younger backups often lack. Nevertheless, his recent injury struggles suggest that Everton made a prudent decision not to pursue an aging player.

The Toffees now face a decision. They must assess whether a dependable figure like Fabiański is preferable to nurturing a younger talent who could challenge Pickford. Moyes tends to depend on familiarity and defensive structure, likely viewing Fabiański as a potential on-field coach rather than merely a substitute.
Considering Fabiański’s injury-ridden time at West Ham, Everton supporters might be relieved the transfer did not materialize. Moving forward, it might be wise for the scouts to shift focus away from past reunions and target a goalkeeper in their mid-twenties. Such a player would not only provide immediate reliability but also greater long-term potential.
