Scott Parker, Burnley manager, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I can’t focus on the negatives at all. The positives, especially our response after going three goals down, showcase our fight and spirit to get back in the game. Although we had two goals disallowed by the narrowest of margins, these moments were pivotal for us.”

“I feel more sadness than disappointment. I empathize with the group. It takes a special kind of character to face the atmosphere at half-time, especially when your own supporters are critical, yet still show the resilience to rise to the challenge presented by Brentford and the overall atmosphere. I’m immensely proud of this team.”

On the atmosphere at half-time: “The mood was mixed; there were some harsh comments. In the first half, we played lackluster. We put ourselves in a tough spot. However, our tactical adjustments in the second half paid off significantly. At that point, the atmosphere shifted for a young squad that was clearly feeling the weight of the supporters’ reaction, which we completely understand. Our response was truly commendable.”

“It was tough to endure. I’ve been around since VAR was introduced and have strong opinions about it. In today’s football, we strive for perfection. There are aspects of the game we have to accept, including situations like offside and handball. I haven’t seen the footage, but if it’s offside, it’s offside.”

“It was heartbreaking for us because we truly deserved that. In the second half, we were exceptional, scoring five goals in just 60 minutes, which is a remarkable achievement for us.”

“VAR and the precision it demands, like calling offside by a mere sleeve, is just part of the modern game. We understand that and accept it as reality.”
