Matt Bloomfield, head coach of Oxford United, expressed that his team’s 2-1 victory against fellow relegation candidates West Bromwich Albion was a significant moment for the club.
This win marked Oxford’s first in seven Championship matches and Bloomfield’s maiden home victory since he took the helm in early January.
As a result of this victory, Oxford is now just three points behind West Brom and two points shy of 22nd place Leicester City.
“Securing our first home win is crucial,” he remarked in an interview with BBC Radio Oxford.
“It’s essential for us to provide our supporters with something to celebrate and to take pride in their team, and it’s something we can really commit to moving forward.
“Today felt like a significant milestone; although it’s just three points, it truly felt monumental for us, and I’m immensely proud to be here as the winning manager.
“Looking back at last season, our survival largely rested on set-piece goals, and we must improve in that area—indeed, we need to score more goals in general. However, set-pieces remain a strong asset for us, so I’m delighted that we managed to score two from them today.”
