Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin anticipates a “physical” match against St Mirren, asserting that his players will “keep fighting” for a chance to secure a top-six position.
Following Saturday’s loss to Motherwell and Falkirk’s impressive victory over Kilmarnock, United now find themselves 12 points adrift of sixth place, with only 15 points remaining to contest.

The first opportunity to close that gap comes against St Mirren at Tannadice, as Goodwin seeks to end a four-match winless streak in the Premiership and regain momentum before Friday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against Falkirk.
“I can never fault this group of players for their effort, commitment, or professionalism,” he stated. “We recognize that we haven’t accumulated enough points at this stage of the season.”
He added, “We’ve made some costly mistakes in certain matches, and I include myself in that—it’s not solely on the players.

“We are a unified team, sharing the highs and lows together. However, we’re not satisfied with our current position in the league.”
Goodwin also acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, “We’re realistic enough to understand that it’s not going to be easy. Falkirk only needs one more win from their next four matches to secure a top-six spot. But while there’s still a mathematical chance, we’ll continue to fight.”
He expressed confidence that his team would hold up against St Mirren “in terms of the physical aspect.”
“They’re likely to employ a much more direct style compared to what we faced against Motherwell on Saturday. We’ll need to defend our box effectively,” he added. “However, we’ve had some success against St Mirren in previous matches this season, and we must aim to replicate that.”
