Liverpool appears poised to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming transfer window.
Recent rumors have connected Liverpool with players like Mateus Mane and Anthony Gordon. There are growing doubts about Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool beyond the summer of 2026, and Federico Chiesa is also expected to depart.

On the opposite flank, Rio Ngumoha stands as the only real substitute for Cody Gakpo. The Premier League champions may seek an upgrade, especially considering concerns regarding Gakpo’s performance this season.
Acquiring new wingers could set Liverpool back around £100 million, making player sales crucial in generating necessary funds.
As reported by Fichajes, Atletico Madrid is preparing a bid to acquire Gakpo, which would significantly aid Liverpool in financing other attacking options.
“Atlético Madrid believes they could lure him away from Anfield for a fee around €80 million, which is still below Liverpool’s initial asking price,” the report states.
“The player’s profile aligns with what Diego Simeone seeks: physical strength, the ability to penetrate defenses, and tactical flexibility.”
Cody Gakpo: Situation Overview
Cody Gakpo is seen as a starter, yet his position remains somewhat uncertain.
Since joining from PSV for around £37 million in January 2023, he has been a significant contributor, amassing over 2,000 minutes in each of his full seasons and surpassing that milestone again in the 2025–26 season.
His role was pivotal in last year’s title campaign, where he scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions. Coach Arne Slot has consistently relied on him as the primary left-sided player, capable of playing in multiple positions.

Contractually, Gakpo is secured, having signed an extension in August 2025 that runs through 2030. This agreement updated a prior deal extending to 2028 and reportedly raised his wages to the £200,000–£250,000-per-week range.
His long-term contract, age, and performance level contribute to why internal discussions around any potential sale begin at a high valuation—Bayern Munich, for instance, has been linked with a bid of around £65 million (approximately €75 million).
The situation is tense; while Gakpo is regarded as a core player, his performance has prompted debate over whether Liverpool should invest further or consider a profitable sale.
