Virgil van Dijk remains optimistic that Liverpool can turn around their Champions League deficit against Galatasaray, even after suffering a disappointing first-leg defeat in Istanbul.
The Reds faced a challenging atmosphere and ultimately lost 1-0, reminiscent of a prior league match at Rams Park.

Mario Lemina secured the Turkish champions’ lead with an early header, capitalizing on a poorly defended corner.
The match was characterized by Liverpool’s missed opportunities and frustrations with officiating, including a disallowed equalizer from Ibrahima Konate and a penalty appeal involving Van Dijk.
Despite these setbacks, the captain is now focused on the crucial home leg at Anfield on Wednesday.
“I’ve seen plenty of chances we created, but that alone won’t be enough,” Van Dijk remarked. “We need to battle and prove we deserve to progress to the next round.”

He highlighted the significance of the home crowd, stating, “Next week will be decisive. We’re at home, and our fans will be there, so we hope it will be a memorable evening for us.”

Van Dijk continued, “We need to demonstrate our desire to proceed, both in our defensive and attacking play; that’s our main objective.”
Before the European showdown, Liverpool will take on Tottenham in the Premier League, a team also experiencing a rough patch.
Tottenham’s domestic woes, which have seen them fall to 16th place, were compounded by a humiliating 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Europe.
Despite their current struggles, Van Dijk warned against underestimating their potential.
“Our primary focus must be on Spurs, as that will be a challenging match too,” he said. “Even though they’re going through a tough time, when they come to Anfield, especially at the start, they’ll feel they can get a result.”

Van Dijk emphasized the importance of a unified team effort, shifting attention away from individual performances, such as those of Mohamed Salah.
“It’s about the team as a whole,” he asserted. “Mo is a crucial part of our squad, and we need contributions from everyone—it’s not just about one player.”
He concluded, “We play for the club and strive for results, so everyone must play their part. We certainly have the talent, and in Mo’s case, there is absolutely no doubt about his abilities, which he consistently demonstrates.”
“He is vital for us and will continue to be throughout the season. We all need to keep pushing forward, including him.”
