In the lead-up to this important match, Barcelona player Pau Cubarsi attended the Mediterranean International Cup event.

Cubarsi, alongside Barcelona Femeni star Kika Nazareth, is serving as one of this year’s tournament ambassadors.

During the event, the La Masia defender discussed the upcoming game against Sevilla and other topics.

In response to a comment about playing Real Madrid week after week, Cubarsi emphasized the team’s focus on the upcoming league match against Sevilla.

“The schedule is already demanding; just imagine facing Madrid multiple times in a week. Right now, our focus is on the next game against Sevilla,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Sevilla hasn’t secured a victory at Camp Nou in over 23 years, a fact noted by their coach Matias Almeyda during a pre-match press conference. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about his team’s chances and is searching for a ‘perfect’ result.

Following the Sevilla fixture, Cubarsi mentioned that Barcelona will shift their focus to the midweek match against Newcastle United, where they aim to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

“Then, we’ll turn our attention to Wednesday’s match. If we advance – which we’re confident we will because we’ll give it our all – we’ll be ready for whoever comes next,” he added.

Cubarsi also reflected on the Copa Del Rey, especially following the disappointing 4-3 aggregate loss to Atletico Madrid.

“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t make it to the final. I remember the disallowed goal at the Metropolitano, but we also didn’t perform well there. We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard,” he remarked.

Lastly, the young defender expressed his frustration with a new rule limiting communication with referees to team captains only.

“Now, it’s tough to communicate with them due to the new rule that permits only the captain to speak. If you’re upset about a decision, the best course of action is to walk away,” Cubarsi concluded.
