Martin O’Neill is concerned about Celtic’s chances of winning the title if his team experiences any further setbacks.
Currently trailing leaders Hearts by five points with only nine matches left to play, Celtic has already suffered seven losses in the Premiership during a tumultuous season. They approach Saturday’s match against Motherwell with just one victory in their last three league games.

While O’Neill appreciates how Celtic has navigated a challenging stretch of three away games—two of which were at Ibrox—he emphasizes that his team cannot afford to drop more points.
“Winning on Saturday is critical, especially with the number of games dwindling,” he stated.
“We can’t afford to lose too many points and still maintain hopes of clinching the league as the matches wind down.”
If Motherwell secures a victory on Saturday, they could close the gap to just two points behind Celtic, marking an impressive season for the team from Fir Park.
Motherwell boasts the best defensive record in the league and had gone unbeaten in 2026 until last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Dundee.

O’Neill anticipates a “really tough game,” acknowledging Motherwell’s strong performance this season: “They’ve been doing incredibly well. Although they faced a setback last week against Dundee, they have undeniably been a breath of fresh air for the league. Their fearless approach in matches has been commendable. Along with Hearts and Falkirk, they’ve been impressive. We know this will be a challenging match for us.”
