Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has been issued a fine and an extended ban following his red card during the match against Arsenal at the start of March.
The 26-year-old received a red card after being shown a second yellow card during the Premier League match on March 1. He previously served a suspension during the game against Aston Villa. However, he has now been handed an additional one-match ban and a £70,000 fine after accepting a charge of misconduct from the Football Association.
In a statement released on Friday, the FA noted: “It was alleged that the player acted improperly by failing to leave the pitch promptly and/or using abusive language towards the match officials following his dismissal in the 70th minute.”
“Pedro Neto subsequently admitted the charge against him. An independent Regulatory Commission determined these penalties after a hearing, and the written reasons for their decisions will be made available in due course.”
The Portugal international will now be unavailable for Chelsea’s upcoming home match against Newcastle on Saturday.
This latest punishment comes as Chelsea and Neto are left wondering if UEFA will impose any further sanctions after an incident where he pushed a ball boy during their Champions League loss to Paris St-Germain on Wednesday night.
