Slot on Alisson, Their…

Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the media ahead of the Premier League clash with Tottenham this Sunday at Anfield, with kick-off set for 16:30 GMT.

Here are the main highlights from his news conference:

  • Slot is “not 100% certain” about goalkeeper Alisson’s fitness and his ability to train with the team on Friday. However, he mentioned the issue is “minor” and expressed hope that Alisson will be available for either Sunday’s match or the Champions League return leg against Galatasaray on Wednesday. Federico Chiesa is expected to be fit for training, while Alexander Isak is still undergoing rehabilitation.

  • Reflecting on last year’s fixture against Spurs, Slot noted the “significant difference” between the teams, emphasizing that they have “something to prove” after two defeats. He added that playing in front of their home fans is always “very special” for the team.

  • Regarding setting high standards, Slot stated, “The expectations are always high at Liverpool. As a top club, we should be held to high standards. Last season, we achieved one of our goals and were close to winning the League Cup. While we may not be contending for the league title this year, we remain competitive in two cup competitions.”

  • When asked if Spurs’ current relegation battle and the prospect of reaching their 1,500th home league win at Anfield raise expectations, Slot replied: “Regardless of their position in the league or their recent form, the expectation is inherently high due to our history. Every home match carries the expectation to win.”

  • Slot acknowledged that Liverpool “did not play their best game” against Galatasaray, pointing out their struggle to convert chances and a tendency to concede goals from limited opportunities, contributing to “difficult matches.”

  • Slot mentioned that Rio Ngumoha has had to be “managed carefully” this season due to his age, but he is “definitely a candidate to start” among the three upcoming matches, stressing the need for more than 11 players with the demanding schedule.

  • On Ryan Gravenberch’s new contract, Slot remarked: “It’s clear both the club and I recognize his importance and development. As a young player with great potential, it’s great that he has signed a new contract.”
