Fernandez Questions His…

Enzo Fernandez, the Chelsea midfielder, expressed uncertainty about his future at the club following their exit from the Champions League after a 3-0 defeat to Paris St-Germain at Stamford Bridge. This loss came after Chelsea had already suffered a 5-2 defeat in the first leg of the knockout tie.

Fernandez, who joined Chelsea in January 2023 for a record British transfer fee of €121 million (£107 million), has been an integral part of the squad, appearing over 150 times.

When asked by ESPN about his prospects for next season, the 25-year-old commented, “I don’t know. We have eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s also the World Cup, and then we’ll see what happens.”

This season, Fernandez has made 45 appearances for Chelsea, contributing 12 goals and 6 assists, but he was substituted after 60 minutes during the match against PSG.

Reflecting on the defeat, he stated, “We failed to control the game. In the first leg, we lost concentration in the final 15 minutes and conceded three goals. It happened again here at the start.” He also captained the team in the absence of Reece James.

“At this level, conceding two quick goals due to minor errors is not acceptable. Over the course of the two matches, PSG were clearly the superior side and deserve to advance,” he added.

Fernandez pointed out that similar challenges have been faced since his arrival at Chelsea, indicating a belief in the team’s potential to overcome difficulties. “Our main focus now must be on winning the FA Cup and striving for qualification for next season’s Champions League,” he concluded.
