Leigh, on loan from Bradford, scored his fourth goal in just three matches, providing the winning touch in a match that featured limited scoring opportunities. This victory extends Rovers’ cushion to ten points above the relegation zone in League Two.

Shrewsbury, currently one point and one position above Bristol in 18th place, initially dominated the match, with captain Will Boyle narrowly missing with a diving header. On-loan striker Iwan Morgan also came close, firing two attempts just off target.

Frustration mounted for Shrewsbury’s manager, Gavin Cowan, who received a yellow card for dissent from referee David Rock just before half-time due to his team’s failure to capitalize on their early control.

In an effort to invigorate his attack, Rovers manager Steve Evans introduced Tottenham loanee Yusuf Akhamrich shortly after the hour mark, and he nearly made an impact with two shots from outside the box.

Akhamrich helped shift the momentum in Rovers’ favor, and after 79 minutes, Leigh’s strike from the edge of the area took a critical bounce and deflected past former Rovers keeper Matthew Cox, clinching the match.
