Gasperinis Uncertain…

Gian Piero Gasperini’s position as Roma’s head coach remains uncertain, yet sources from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that the former Atalanta manager intends to hold off on any significant career decisions until the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.

What Is Causing Tension Among Roma’s Upper Management?

Recent reports from Italy indicate a rise in tensions within the Giallorossi hierarchy, particularly following Roma’s disappointing exit from the Europa League round of 16 against Bologna, a team currently trailing them by 12 points in the league standings.

Reports suggest that a confrontation occurred between co-owner Ryan Friedkin, director Frederic Massara, and advisor Claudio Ranieri after the Europa League setback last week. Some insiders speculate that either Massara, Ranieri, or Gasperini could part ways with the club at the end of the season.

Current updates indicate that there are differing opinions among Roma’s senior management regarding the club’s progress during the 2025-26 season.

From Gasperini’s perspective, he believes he has performed well given the available resources and the injuries to key players such as Paulo Dybala, Matias Soule, Artem Dovbyk, Evan Ferguson, and more recently, Manu Kone.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gasperini has expressed frustration about not securing his desired signings during the summer and January transfer windows, which he feels has hindered the team’s performance.

Despite these challenges, the club believes they have made the right moves to position the coach for a top-four Serie A finish, which would secure a Champions League spot for next season, despite constraints imposed by financial fair play regulations.

For example, they signed Robinio Vaz from Marseille in January for €20m, which is seen as a solid investment; however, Gasperini preferred a more experienced center-forward to cover for the absences of Dovbyk and Ferguson.

The Current Situation for Gasperini and Roma

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roma players who are not on international duty will return to training on Tuesday, with a potential meeting between Gasperini, Ranieri, and Massara anticipated sometime during the day.

At this moment, all parties are expected to unite and persevere until the end of the 2025-26 season as Roma strives for a top-four finish in Serie A.

Currently, the Giallorossi have amassed 54 points from 30 matches, marking their second-best performance at this point in the season over the past eight years, trailing only Jose Mourinho’s second season at the Stadio Olimpico, where they had 56 points.

Despite this strong tally, Roma holds sixth place, level with Juventus in fifth but three points behind the rising Como in fourth.

As for Gasperini, further evaluations are expected at the end of the 2025-26 season, but nothing is confirmed as of now.
