Liverpool Defender Still…

Liverpool Defender Still…

Real Madrid is set to search for a new centre-back during the upcoming summer transfer window.

With David Alaba almost certain to depart at the season’s end and ongoing injury concerns with Eder Militao, securing a fresh signing in this position is a wise choice.

Ibrahima Konate Still on the Radar

According to AS, Real Madrid continues to keep a close eye on Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, especially given his uncertain contract status, which could potentially allow for a free transfer.

While his status as a prime transfer target has diminished recently, he remains a possibility. The Merengues are monitoring developments as they look to bolster their defense for the next season.

Real Madrid aims to maintain five players in the centre-back position, making reinforcement a priority, though not immediately urgent. In this context, Konate is still considered a viable choice.

A key factor is that the French player has not yet signed a new deal with Liverpool. His current contract is nearing its conclusion, and despite the club’s desire to retain him, no agreement has been finalized.

This uncertainty has revived the chance of him moving to Real Madrid, a scenario that seemed unlikely just weeks ago.

Narrowing Alternatives

Real Madrid has explored various defensive options. William Saliba was a key target, but his recent contract extension with Arsenal until 2030 has made a transfer unlikely.

Marc Guehi is no longer on the table, having opted to sign with Manchester City in January, while Dayot Upamecano has also renewed his contract with Bayern Munich until 2030.

This leaves two main candidates: Nico Schlotterbeck and Konaté. However, Schlotterbeck’s situation is becoming complex, as Borussia Dortmund is offering him a substantial salary increase, around €14 million per year, to secure his renewal.

Consequently, Real Madrid is reviewing all possibilities, including former defender Jacobo Ramon, while Konate remains a strong candidate. Though his standing in the club’s plans has slightly diminished, he has not been excluded from consideration.
