Ball Secures First Victory…

Jimmy Ball celebrated his first victory as manager of Torquay United after his team secured a 2-0 win against Horsham at Plainmoor.

This triumph keeps the Gulls in fifth place in the National League South with five matches remaining.

Torquay is just two points behind third-placed Hornchurch and another two behind second-placed Worthing, while league leaders Dorking Wanderers are 10 points ahead of the Devon side.

Dylan Morgan opened the scoring for the Gulls with a composed finish in the eighth minute.

Deon Moore had a goal ruled out as the first half progressed, but Jordan Dyer sealed the win midway through the second half by converting a free-kick from Sonny-Blu Lo-Everton.

“We aimed for a fast start, to be assertive, take the lead, and then score more goals,” Ball said in an interview with BBC Radio Devon.

“It was great to score early, and we created several excellent opportunities in the first half that could have easily gone in on another day.”

This victory came in Ball’s third match at the helm, having lost his debut against Dagenham and Redbridge and drawn 2-2 with Dorking in midweek.

The Gulls will now focus on their upcoming match against seventh-placed Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday, which is crucial for the play-off race.

“It feels good,” he expressed.

“Management in football is a peculiar journey. You dedicate all week to achieve a win, and as soon as the final whistle blows, my thoughts shift to Weston. There’s no real time for celebration; it’s immediately about preparing for the next game.

“There’s not much joy in it right now; I’m already planning for this week, and my entire focus is on Weston-super-Mare.”
