Liverpool is actively working to restructure their central defense.
It’s possible that Ibrahima Konate may leave at the end of the season, as he approaches the final months of his contract with Liverpool and has been linked to a move to Real Madrid.

In one year’s time, both Joe Gomez and captain Virgil van Dijk will have their contracts expire. Currently, it would be surprising to see either player in a Liverpool jersey beyond the summer of 2027.
In January, the club secured agreements for Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Jeremy Jacquet to join in the summer. Additionally, another promising talent, Mor Talla Ndiaye, was signed to bolster the under-21 squad.
Leoni Set for Comeback
The catalyst for this reshuffle was Giovanni Leoni.
The Italian defender was acquired from Parma last summer for £26 million, but tragedy struck during his debut when he tore his ACL in an EFL Cup match against Southampton, bringing his first season to an unfortunate end.

While it’s unlikely that Leoni will return to action this season, plans are in motion for his recovery. According to a report from Mondo Primavera, Leoni is expected to return to first-team training by the end of April, which means a comeback is just weeks away.
“The current plan calls for a return to training with the squad by the end of April 2026,” the report states.
This “new signing” is seen as a crucial part of Liverpool’s defensive strategy, as the club has made a significant investment in the young player, viewing him as a cornerstone for the future.
