Andy Mangan, the former assistant manager of Bristol Rovers, has joined Swansea City as a first-team consultant for the remainder of the season.
The 39-year-old adds to the extensive coaching staff at the Championship club, according to an announcement from Swansea.
Mangan enjoyed a nearly three-year tenure at Rovers, serving as a first-team coach under Joey Barton and taking on the role of caretaker manager before departing the club in 2023.
At the Memorial Stadium, Mangan collaborated with Tom Gorringe, the former Pirates chief executive, who is now in the same position at Swansea.
The Liverpool-born ex-striker has also coached at Fleetwood Town, working again with Barton, as well as at Stockport County.
Most recently, Mangan was on the coaching staff at Brazilian club Botafogo, serving under Davide Ancelotti.
Ancelotti, the son of the renowned manager Carlo Ancelotti, trained for his coaching pro licence in Wales, where he was alongside Mangan and Swansea head coach Vitor Matos.
Mangan was set to join Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff at Real Madrid in 2024, but the move fell through due to a rejected work permit.
During his playing career, Mangan represented several lower-league and non-league teams, including Wrexham, Accrington Stanley, Tranmere Rovers, and Fleetwood.
Swansea appointed Ryan Maye as their assistant head coach in December, while Matos brought in Portuguese staff Diogo Medeiros, Toze Mendes, and Goncalo Ricca from Maritimo after arriving in Wales last November.
They join head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson and first-team coach Kristian O’Leary on the Swansea coaching team, which also includes club legends Leon Britton and Joe Allen in various roles.
