Jonathan Rowe has shared insights into his challenging beginning at Bologna and the dedication he has put into turning his situation around, especially as he prepares for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Aston Villa at the Renato Dall’Ara.

The English winger was open with UEFA about the difficulties he faced while adjusting to a new country and a different style of football after his move from Marseille. He acknowledged that he may have initially underestimated the magnitude of that transition.
“I found myself having to adapt to a new style of football,” Rowe stated, via TuttoMercatoWeb.
“I analyzed my statistics and, in collaboration with my staff, compared them to my previous performance and that of the top players in my position. I took that information to enhance my game and became more mindful of my positioning on the pitch, which I believe has led to my improved performance levels.”

Rowe: ‘Bologna fans are starting to see the real me; Italiano helps us feel free in the final third’
The forward believes that his development is now becoming apparent to Bologna’s fans.
“I think the Rossoblù supporters are beginning to see what I can really do,” he remarked, offering a confident yet balanced view from a player who has worked diligently to secure his role in Vincenzo Italiano’s plans.
Rowe expressed enthusiasm for the manager, noting that while the language barrier initially presented challenges, the improved communication has deepened his understanding of Italiano’s expectations.
“The key aspect is that with him, we attackers feel empowered in the final third,” he stated. “We need to focus on maintaining quality, creating goals, assisting, and being a consistent threat.”

Rowe also highlighted what he believes stands out to Italiano about his contributions.
“I think what the manager values most in me is my drive, both offensively and defensively, and my commitment to always put in my best on the pitch. These are traits that have always been part of my game, making it easier for me to build upon them.”
