Inter Milan forward and Argentina international Lautaro Martínez has sustained a reinjury to the soleus muscle in his left leg, just one week after returning from a seven-week layoff, as announced by the club on Friday.
The Serie A leaders confirmed that Martínez underwent medical evaluations, which indicated a minor muscular strain. “Lautaro Martínez’s condition will be re-assessed in the coming days,” the club stated.
Martínez had just returned to the Inter lineup last Sunday, where he netted two goals in a 5-2 victory over Roma after missing five matches for his club and two international friendlies.
Unfortunately, Inter reported that he has re-aggravated the injury from February 18, when he originally hurt himself in a second-leg UEFA Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt.
The 28-year-old striker is now expected to miss the upcoming fixtures against Como and Cagliari, as well as the crucial second leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals against Como.
In his absence, Inter manager Cristian Chivu will likely continue to alternate between Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny to support Marcus Thuram in the forward line.
This injury is a significant setback for Martínez, who is vying for his third Scudetto with Inter while also aiming to stay in top shape for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
Prior to these injuries, Martínez was having a remarkable season, leading Serie A with 20 goals and providing four assists across 36 matches in all competitions.
