At his post-match press conference, Gian Piero Gasperini tackled the controversy surrounding Claudio Ranieri directly, firmly refuting any notion of discord between them. He emphasized that Roma’s primary objective is to secure a Champions League spot in the final six matches of the season.

Earlier, Ranieri had mentioned that he had suggested five or six managerial candidates before Gasperini’s appointment, noting that three turned down the opportunity. He clarified that his recommendations are always aligned with the owners’ decisions rather than the coach’s.

When asked for his thoughts on this, Gasperini responded thoughtfully but decisively.

“I’ve never had a disagreement with Ranieri; quite the contrary,” he stated, as reported by quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb.

“I recommended two players, one of whom arrived. I mentioned that we needed to strengthen our attacking options due to the loss of several forwards, but beyond that, everything was fine. There was never any conflict between us, and I have always focused on my work.”

When further pressed on whether he felt misaligned with the club’s direction, Gasperini’s answer was straightforward.

“Don’t mess with me. I’m on a single path. I have six games to play, starting with a very tough opponent next. We’re in a good position and, at worst, we’ll be one point ahead of them.”

Roma 3-0 Pisa – Gasperini: ‘Malen is extraordinary’

He drew a direct comparison with his time at Atalanta, recalling the thrill of overtaking Roma in the standings as evidence of his understanding of the current challenge.

Regarding Malen, whose hat-trick electrified the Olimpico, Gasperini was enthusiastic and refreshingly candid about the serendipitous nature of the signing.

“Malen is extraordinary,” he remarked. “The critical question was whether he could perform as a centre-forward, and I got that right. He possesses speed, ball control… we faced him in pre-season and could immediately recognize his talent.”

He humorously added that he had no idea Malen was available for transfer until two days before the deal was finalized, characterizing the successful acquisition as luck rather than exceptional scouting on his part.
