Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is set to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury sustained during the 1-0 loss against Sunderland, as reported by ESPN Argentina.
The Spurs captain was shoved from behind by Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey and collided with goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky in the second half. He was subsequently substituted for Kevin Danso.
Romero’s immediate reaction raised concerns about the injury’s severity, and preliminary tests indicated damage to his knee ligament.
Further evaluations are planned in the coming days to determine the injury’s severity.
Sources informed Martín Arévalo on Buenos Dias ESPN that the defender could be sidelined for approximately five to eight weeks, with the club expected to release an official update soon.

Should this timeframe hold, Romero will miss the remainder of Tottenham’s season, which has seen them drop to 18th place in the Premier League standings after the loss at the Stadium of Light. However, with under two months until the World Cup, this could allow Romero sufficient time to recover for Argentina’s title defense this summer in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
