Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has announced that Bukayo Saka will be unavailable for the upcoming match against Manchester City, but has hinted that Noni Madueke may be fit to play.
Players Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori have not been ruled out yet, as Arteta navigates multiple selection dilemmas ahead of this crucial title clash.
Currently, Arsenal sits six points ahead of Manchester City, and a victory at the Etihad would bring them closer to their first league title in 22 years.
If City triumphs, they would significantly narrow the gap, making the title race even more competitive with a game in hand.
Saka’s absence is confirmed, while Madueke had to leave Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Sporting early due to injury. However, Arteta expressed optimism about Madueke’s condition, noting that it “didn’t look too bad” after the match.
“He is quite positive and a player who can push through pain,” said Arteta. “I am hopeful he can train and be available, but we will see.”
As for Odegaard, Timber, and Calafiori, Arteta mentioned, “Some players are quite close. The turnaround is short. We will try tomorrow to push everybody. If they’re ready, they will join us; if not, they won’t.”
City’s Guardiola commented that the title race would be “over” if they lose to Arsenal, while even a draw would favor the visitors.
Nonetheless, Arteta emphasized that he would not consider playing for a draw. “We have earned the right to be in this position, to challenge. We cannot wait to play this game and will prepare to win. This is a huge opportunity for us, and our team must utilize every tool to succeed against a strong opponent,” he stated.
