Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the media ahead of Sunday’s Premier League Merseyside Derby against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, scheduled for 14:00 BST.
Here are the key highlights from his press conference:

Slot was asked for his reaction to the news that Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup due to an Achilles injury. He said, “He hasn’t undergone surgery yet. It’s devastating for him, especially coming to a new club and performing so well. My first thoughts are with him as he will miss many special moments. However, there are numerous examples of players who have returned even stronger, and that will be the challenge for him now.”
-
He also confirmed that defender Joe Gomez will not be available for Sunday’s match.
-
When asked about potential squad changes for the summer, he stated, “The second leg against PSG indicates that the future looks promising. This team has already proven its ability to compete with Europe’s best. I think about the areas we need to address rather than specific numbers of players leaving. We operate as a trading club, so we will see what unfolds in the summer.”
-
On upcoming player movements, he added, “We know at least two players will be changing, but Kostas [Tsimikas] is returning. There’s an emphasis on how we respond in the position of Mo Salah, whether we want a direct replacement or a different approach. Currently, there isn’t a significant likelihood of many players leaving. Of course, there’s the situation with Ibou Konate’s contract but there may not be a pressing need for extensive changes.”
-
Slot praised his team’s performance despite losing to Paris St-Germain: “They displayed tremendous character. Competing against PSG is quite difficult, especially across three games in seven days. Many of my players set records for physical output, which demonstrates their readiness and strength. That will carry into Sunday.”
-
Discussing the first Merseyside Derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, he said, “It’s always a special game. The inaugural match ups the ante even more. Everton is currently in a solid position, and the significance is heightened since it’s the first in a new stadium.”
-
On whether Alexander Isak is prepared to take on more responsibility in Ekitike’s absence, now that he has returned from injury, Slot remarked, “It’s fortunate that we signed two strikers. Many questioned that decision, especially considering Alex started for the first time just as Hugo was injured. It’s great to have Alex back, but we know he isn’t ready for a full 90 minutes yet.”
