According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona is keeping a close eye on the left-back from Bayer Leverkusen, whose departure from the Bundesliga seems increasingly likely this summer.
With only a year left on his contract, the report indicates that Grimaldo could be available for under €12 million, making him an appealing low-cost defensive option for the summer transfer window.
The Spanish defender is reportedly seeking a new challenge and prioritizes a return to Spain.
Interest is Growing
This preference places Barcelona, along with possibly Atletico Madrid, in a favorable position if they choose to proceed.
However, interest isn’t limited to La Liga, with clubs like Juventus and AC Milan also expressing interest in his availability.
Grimaldo had already caught Barcelona’s attention last summer while they were searching for a reliable alternative to Alejandro Balde.
At one point, the club was close to finalizing a deal, but it fell through due to difficulties in offloading Gerard Martin.
