During Coventry’s promotion celebrations on Friday night, we gathered your thoughts on the end of the Sky Blues’ 25-year absence from the Premier League and who you wanted to thank for helping reach this significant milestone.
From Birmingham and Northampton to Wembley, and through financial challenges, the club has endured numerous chapters over the 9,101 days since their last Premier League match.
Thank you for the overwhelming number of messages we received. Here’s a selection of your heartfelt responses:
Karter: I owe a huge thanks to Doug King for his dedication and investment in the club. He truly embodies the Sky Blue spirit. I also want to recognize Mark Robins, as we wouldn’t be celebrating this without his relentless work and passion. And let’s not forget super Frankie Lampard; he deserves a statue for his contributions. We’re promoted! Passionate and proud!
Steven: I’m an emotional wreck! The Villa game 25 years ago was my first at just four years old, so it doesn’t hit me quite the same. But I’ve witnessed some of the lowest lows that no football club should endure. After eight years, climbing from the depths of League Two to the Premier League is simply unbelievable. I’m so immensely proud of this team!
John: While this is the fourth peak in a storied history, this moment feels the most significant. We’ve had promotion to the top flight (1967), a sixth-place finish qualifying for Europe (1970), and winning the FA Cup (1987). But today is about the present and the future.
Chris: This is the best day of my life! I was there when we were relegated and kept my faith throughout, but ten years ago, I feared we may never return. Big thanks to Mark Robins, Doug King, Frank Lampard, and every player from the last decade who fought tirelessly. We are Coventry City, and now we are back in the Premier League!
Luke: What an incredible achievement, especially considering we often haven’t spent as much on wages compared to many clubs. Doug King has been excellent in his management, and Magic Frank has done remarkable work alongside his talented staff. The players have consistently delivered outstanding performances, making it tough to choose just one standout player. However, Carl Rushworth deserves special recognition for his crucial goalkeeping that has brought us several vital points.
Archie: After all we’ve endured—nearly going bankrupt, our stadium sold off, and playing in various cities rather than our home—this promotion is a victory for everyone. Mark Robins, Matty Godden, Michael Doyle, Max Biamou, and Liam Kelly, this is as much yours as it is for the celebrating players.
John G: I’ve held a season ticket for 52 years, starting at six years old, experiencing both the highs and lows of this amazing, family-oriented club. To return from the brink—without a home ground, facing potential bankruptcy, and enduring consecutive relegations—is a remarkable tale. Frank Lampard has been fantastic, but immense credit goes to Mark Robins, whose years of dedication have laid the groundwork for this achievement. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Sky Blue fans.
