Pep: City can handle…

Pep Guardiola expressed confidence that Manchester City can withstand the pressures of a tightly contested title race following a nerve-wracking match against Burnley.

City secured a narrow 1-0 victory at Turf Moor on Wednesday, propelling them to the top of the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal based on goal difference while also relegating Burnley.

Guardiola’s squad faced some tense moments, especially when goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka came up for a corner in stoppage time, but they managed to hold onto their lead.

“I don’t have a machine to measure how you feel under pressure,” Guardiola remarked. “Were you nervous or not? I can’t say, but I believe that these experiences will benefit us all in the future; the more you face these situations, the better you handle them.”

“Overall, our performance was very good—the commitment, the number of attacking plays was impressive; we just missed that extra touch to convert more chances.”

City seemed poised to improve their goal difference after Erling Haaland scored within the first five minutes. However, despite taking 28 shots and having an expected goals (xG) of 3.5, they weren’t able to find the net again.

“I felt we played exceptionally well,” Guardiola stated. “Although I didn’t see all the replays of our chances, I had the sense we created numerous opportunities.”

“In matches like these, we typically score two or three times based on the chances we create, and it was warranted.”

Arsenal will have the opportunity to reclaim their lead in the Premier League this weekend against Newcastle, while City prepares for the FA Cup semifinals against Southampton.
