Juventus Set to Finalize…

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus is set to rekindle their interest in Mason Greenwood if he opts to leave Marseille this summer.

The Serie A club’s interest in the 24-year-old dates back to early 2023, when a transfer did not materialize. Greenwood was then loaned to Getafe from Manchester United, before making a permanent switch to OM.

At Marseille, Greenwood has revitalized his career, playing a pivotal role in their return to the Champions League last season. So far this season, he has amassed 25 goals and 10 assists in 42 matches across all competitions. Despite his impressive output, OM currently sits sixth in Ligue 1, four points behind Lyon, which places them at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.

The possibility of not participating in Champions League football looms large for OM, and if they fall short, Greenwood is likely to seek an exit from the Vélodrome.

Greenwood has three years left on his contract, worth €5.45 million annually, with no release clause in place. Marseille is expected to seek a transfer fee around €50 million, a price they may not alter even if Champions League qualification eludes them, due to a sell-on agreement with Manchester United that requires them to relinquish 50% of any transfer fee received for Greenwood.

A transfer to Juventus would represent another significant advancement in Greenwood’s career. However, it is important to recognize that any potential club will have to navigate the scrutiny and backlash regarding Greenwood’s off-field reputation.

In early 2022, Greenwood faced arrest due to allegations of abuse, leading to charges of “attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.” However, these charges were dropped a year later by the UK Crown Prosecution Service as key witnesses withdrew and “new material came to light.”

Legally, Greenwood is free to join any club; nevertheless, he remains a divisive figure in public opinion.
