This summer, Barcelona aims to strengthen its defense by signing a new centre-back, leaning towards proven talent to alleviate their ongoing struggles at the back. Their primary target is Alessandro Bastoni, although several other candidates are being evaluated by the club’s sporting team.
Among those considered is Cristian Romero, who is expected to depart from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, regardless of the club’s Premier League status. There have already been initial discussions with his representatives, which has reached Bastoni and his camp.

Inter Milan is aware of Barcelona’s interest in Romero. According to Sport, both the club and Bastoni are concerned that Barcelona’s pursuit of Romero could disrupt plans to secure the Italy international. Tottenham is willing to accept a lower fee than what the Nerazzurri, suggesting that negotiations could falter if they become too demanding.
Currently, Inter is asking for €60 million for Bastoni, while Barcelona is hesitant to exceed €50 million. This latter amount might be sufficient to secure Romero, prompting the Nerazzurri to contemplate lowering their asking price, given that they appear ready to sell their star defender this summer.
Bastoni Not Pressuring Inter – Yet
Bastoni has expressed his desire to join Barcelona but is not yet willing to force a transfer from Inter. He hopes both clubs can reach an amicable agreement, although he may reconsider his stance if the negotiations stall.

How Barcelona moves forward in their search for a centre-back remains to be seen. Bastoni would be an excellent addition, effectively filling the gap left by Inigo Martinez’s departure last summer. However, with a new starting striker also on their agenda, the Catalans cannot afford to overspend on this signing.
