Massimiliano Allegri has announced that the decision to replace the injured Luka Modric for the last four matches of the 2025-26 Serie A season will be between either Ardon Jashari or Samuele Ricci: ‘I have a lot of confidence in both players.’
Allegri Discusses Potential Replacements for Modric: ‘We Have Exceptional Players’
Milan is set to face Sassuolo this Sunday afternoon during the 35th round of Serie A fixtures, but they will be without the former Ballon d’Or recipient Modric against the Neroverdi. The 40-year-old is expected to miss the rest of the 2025-26 season after sustaining a fractured cheekbone while contesting a header against Manuel Locatelli during last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Juventus.

This is a significant setback for the Rossoneri, who have managed to feature the veteran midfielder in all but one of their Serie A matches this season. Modric has been in the starting lineup for 32 of Milan’s 34 league fixtures thus far.
In his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Allegri revealed that they will choose between Jashari and Ricci to fill Modric’s role against Sassuolo on Sunday.
“We’re very disappointed by this unfortunate injury, which will keep him sidelined until the end of the season, even though he is eager to return,” Allegri remarked.
“His passion for the game is inspiring, and I hope this experience serves as a lesson to the other players. We have fantastic players to take his place, and both Jashari and Ricci have developed significantly, and I have great confidence in them.”

Jashari, who was one of the summer transfer window’s priciest acquisitions, has faced difficulties making an impact at San Siro, particularly following his injury shortly after joining from Club Brugge.
Nonetheless, Allegri remains optimistic: “Jashari has made significant progress. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious injury early in the season, which kept him out for an extended period. He embodies determination and curiosity; his future is bright, and I believe Milan secured a fantastic player.”
