Al Hilal staged a comeback to defeat Al Khaleej 2-1 on Tuesday in a match for the Saudi Pro League, reducing Al Nassr‘s lead at the top of the standings to just two points.
Meanwhile, Al Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, dropped vital points after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Al Qadsiah, ending their impressive 20-match winning streak across all competitions.
Joshua King scored first for Al Khaleej, but Al Hilal responded with goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Sultan Mandash, clinching all three points and raising the stakes for their upcoming matchup on May 12.
On April 29, Al Nassr had increased their lead over Al Hilal to eight points with a victory against Al Ahli, but following Al Hilal’s recent win and Al Nassr’s loss, the gap has narrowed significantly.
With both teams having played 31 matches in the 34-match season, Al Nassr sits at 79 points, while Al Hilal is at 77.
Ronaldo is still searching for his first trophy since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, and after leading the standings, recent results have shifted the dynamics of the title race.
This season has been full of ups and downs for Ronaldo at Al Nassr, particularly when he boycotted two matches earlier in 2026 to protest what he deemed as inequitable transfer dealings by Al Hilal.
His protest followed the winter transfer window acquisition of former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema by Al Hilal from Al Ittihad.
Throughout his career, Ronaldo has netted 970 goals for club and country, 25 of which have come during his time at Al Nassr this season.
