Liverpools Isak Could…

Arne Slot has announced that striker Alexander Isak may be able to rejoin the squad for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea this weekend.

Isak was sidelined during the Reds’ 3-2 loss to Manchester United due to a minor groin injury but returned to training on Thursday and is likely to play against Chelsea.

Liverpool will still be without Mohamed Salah and goalkeeper Alisson Becker, both recovering from muscle injuries. However, Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konaté are expected to be available after missing earlier training sessions this week.

“Alex trained with us yesterday for the first time, which is a positive sign,” Slot mentioned during his pre-match press conference. “He participated in parts of the training session, and we hope he can do more today. We’ll assess his availability for tomorrow’s match.”

“Alisson hasn’t trained with us yet, but he’s making progress. [Giorgi] Mamardashvili will also join training today for the first time, so we’ll evaluate how he reacts. Mo hasn’t returned to training yet either, but he’s getting closer.”

A win on Saturday could put Liverpool on the brink of Champions League qualification, needing just four points from their last three matches to secure a top-five finish.

Nevertheless, Slot acknowledged that even a strong finish may not alleviate the criticism directed at the team throughout the season.

“This season has unfolded in such a way that even if we secure three wins, I suspect many will still be critical of our performance,” the Liverpool manager expressed.

“It is crucial to achieve at least one victory that we believe will ensure qualification. We’re aiming for the best possible performances, although that has not always materialized.”

“The silver lining is that several key players are either returning for this weekend or shortly thereafter. This will aid us in reaching our goals.”

“Three wins alone won’t silence the detractors, so we need a more sustained run of good results and performances. Currently, our focus is on the next three matches. Next season will bring changes in personnel as well.”
