Irish Premier Division

Drogheda United 1 – 0 Derry City (Full Time)

Derry City’s impressive six-game unbeaten streak was halted with a 1-0 loss to Drogheda at Sullivan and Lambe Park.

Despite a determined push for an equalizer in the final moments, Derry was thwarted by the woodwork.

Derry will look to recover during their away game against Waterford, while Drogheda prepares to face Bohemians next.

Derry Struggles to Generate Opportunities

During the first half, scoring chances were scarce, with neither team managing to test the opposing goalkeeper.

Adam O’Reilly came close with a long-range effort that went just wide, while Warren Davis’ shot was blocked shortly after the half-hour mark.

In the 38th minute, Derry had their best opportunity of the half when Patrick McClean’s header was cleared off the line by Shane Farrell.

Drogheda had a few set-piece opportunities towards the end of the half but were unable to capitalize.

Early in the second half, Fynn Talley made two crucial saves to deny Conor Barr his first goal in a red and white jersey.

Just moments later, referee Arnold Hunter awarded a penalty to the home side after Davis was fouled by Jamie Stott in the penalty area.

Captain Brennan confidently converted the penalty, sending the ball past an outstretched Edward Beach.

Derry’s goalkeeper was soon called upon again, this time denying Brandon Kavanagh’s attempt against his former team.

Before the match, Tiernan Lynch made five changes to the starting lineup that drew 1-1 with Galway and opted for a triple substitution after his side fell behind.

However, even with these substitutions, Derry struggled to create significant scoring opportunities.

Substitute Henry Rylah made the most notable effort with a 25-yard shot that was easily saved by Talley.

In the dying moments of the match, Rylah nearly equalized, but his strike hit the crossbar and was ultimately cleared, leading to frustration among Derry supporters who felt the ball had crossed the line when it bounced back down.
