After Arsenal’s recent setbacks in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and Barclays Women’s Super League, Arroyo has emphasized the need for her team to be bold against their North London rivals.
“I know that Renée [Slegers] was unhappy with how Brighton took an early lead in midweek, so I expect Arsenal to come out stronger this time,” Arroyo stated in her pre-match press conference. “They will likely aim to improve on their previous performance, but it’s also true that losing the title can have an emotional impact on a team.”
“They are a team capable of managing matches on both Wednesdays and Saturdays. While I’m uncertain whether they will rotate their squad or field their strongest lineup, they still have plenty to play for. We anticipate facing a determined opponent.”
“Our focus is on ourselves, recognizing that Arsenal may seek to avenge past defeats at Villa Park and the Emirates. We present a real challenge for them, so we must be fully prepared and courageous as we face them.”

Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s men’s team recently excelled, defeating Nottingham Forest 4-1 on aggregate to secure a spot in the UEFA Europa League final. Arroyo referenced this triumph as a source of inspiration for her squad.
“I was at Villa Park yesterday, and the atmosphere was incredible—great tactics, energy, and passion,” she remarked. “We aspire to achieve a similar level of performance. Whether it’s a 4-0 victory or a close 1-0 win, we want to showcase our bravery, attacking mindset, and the courage to play our game effectively.”
“At the Emirates, we conceded while trying to be proactive, but we demonstrated our desire to play positively, which is how we want to approach future matches.”
Aston Villa struggles with the second-worst defensive record in the Barclays Women’s Super League, and Arroyo acknowledged the need for improvement in this area.

“We’ve been closely examining our defensive issues over the past few weeks. We’re not satisfied with the number of goals we’ve conceded, particularly since over half occurred in the last 30 minutes of matches, which suggests a deeper issue than simply poor defending.”
“For instance, we conceded six goals against Man City, and seven against Tottenham, totaling 13 in just two matches, due to various factors.”
“Improving our defense is crucial, which involves both individual performances and team mentality. Sometimes it’s a question of squad depth. We aim to channel our analyses into enhanced training, better coaching strategies, and ultimately an improved squad as we move forward.”
