Hansi Flicks Emotional…

Barcelona secured their second consecutive La Liga title with a commanding
2-0 victory over Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday. The Catalan club can now celebrate late into the night, though the day carried a bittersweet tone for head coach Hansi Flick.

Unfortunately, Flick’s father passed away early Sunday morning, but he made the decision to lead the team during El Clasico. After the match, he reflected on the mix of emotions he was experiencing, while also expressing gratitude to his squad for their La Liga achievement.

“This moment will stay with me forever. It was a tough day; my father passed away, but the team performed fantastically, and I couldn’t be happier. They gave their all. I’m incredibly proud of my players. To win in a Clásico against Real Madrid is thrilling. It’s impressive—everyone saw how hard it was. Many believed we could win, but Real Madrid is a strong team. We played and defended exceptionally well.”

Flick Recognizes Key Individuals at Barcelona

In addition to praising his players, Flick took the opportunity to acknowledge president-elect Joan Laporta, interim president Rafa Yuste, and the club’s loyal supporters, whom he hopes will join in the celebration of their La Liga victory.

“I want to express my gratitude to the squad, the president, Yuste, and all the fans for their unwavering support. The most important thing is my pride in having such an outstanding team. Thank you for your relentless effort in every match. I truly appreciate it. We certainly need to celebrate. Visca Barça and Visca Cataluña!”

Barcelona is set to host an open-top bus parade on Monday to celebrate their La Liga and Spanish Super Cup triumphs, the latter of which they also secured in January against Real Madrid. It remains uncertain if Flick will participate, as he intends to return to Germany soon to be with his family.
