Allegri: Milan should…

Max Allegri emphasized that AC Milan should avoid placing blame and instead concentrate on securing their Champions League spot following a 3-2 defeat to Atalanta. “At least we’ve returned to scoring goals,” he noted.

The atmosphere was already charged before the match as ultras expressed their dissatisfaction with CEO Giorgio Furlani and other officials. This tension escalated as Milan fell behind 3-0 before the hour mark, prompting many fans to leave early.

Ederson, Davide Zappacosta, and Giacomo Raspadori scored for Atalanta, establishing a daunting lead for Milan. However, the Rossoneri rallied late in the game.

A header from Strahinja Pavlovic in the 88th minute, followed by a penalty converted by Christopher Nkunku in the 94th minute, set the stage for a tense finish. Nonetheless, a header from Matteo Gabbia grazed the post and denied them a potential equalizer.

Allegri Seeks Stability for Milan

Allegri remarked, “We can’t dwell on the past as we cannot change it,” emphasizing the importance of preparation for the decisive upcoming match against Genoa. “Tonight started well but quickly went downhill; however, the response in the second half was commendable. It’s a positive sign that we found the back of the net.”

Milan hadn’t scored at home since their 3-2 victory over Torino in March, ending a goal drought of over 300 minutes.

With just two matches left, Milan currently sits in joint fourth place with 67 points, tied with Roma, one point behind Juventus, and two points above sixth-placed Como.

“It’s understandable that no one anticipated such a challenging phase,” Allegri commented. “We need to pour all our energy and enthusiasm into securing victory against Genoa, a team that has done well at home.”

Compounding their troubles, Rafael Leao, Alexis Saelemaekers, and Pervis Estupinan are all set to miss the upcoming match due to suspensions, while Davide Bartesaghi suffered an injury and Christian Pulisic was ruled out due to muscle issues.

Leao struggled during the match, missing several opportunities and facing backlash from fans when substituted. Allegri, however, remained focused on the team’s collective performance. “This isn’t just about Leao or any single player; it’s a team issue. We all need to prepare for the upcoming Genoa match,” he stated.

Since their impressive win over Inter in the Derby della Madonnina, Milan has dropped points, earning only seven points in their last eight matches.

Their final two fixtures will be against Genoa and Cagliari.

Allegri remarked, “As we approach these final two rounds, it’s natural for tensions to run high. We’ll await the scheduling of our matches, but I can’t fault the players for their efforts in training.”

The tension between fans and club officials remains palpable, with ultras targeting CEO Furlani as a primary figure of discontent.

Allegri took responsibility, stating, “As the coach, I am ultimately accountable when results don’t meet expectations. The players have consistently given their all. Instead of seeking blame, we need to reflect on the victories we’ve achieved this season and aim for two more.”

“I’ve said before that the Champions League qualification was not guaranteed, despite what others thought. We’ve now encountered the dip I anticipated, and we must navigate it as best we can,” he concluded.
