Actor Cristo Fernandez, known for his role in Ted Lasso, has officially joined the El Paso Locomotive, a team in the USL Championship, following a two-month trial period.
The 35-year-old Mexican, who portrayed Dani Rojas in the acclaimed Apple TV+ series from 2020 to 2023, will transition to a different position within the second-tier American soccer club.

Fernandez began his football journey in Guadalajara but left the sport at the age of 15 due to a knee injury. After relocating to London, he landed a role in Ted Lasso, which received numerous accolades during its first three seasons.
“Football has been an integral part of my life and identity. Regardless of where life has led me, the dream of playing professionally has always remained in my heart,” Fernandez stated. Earlier this year, he also trialed with Chicago Fire’s second team in Major League Soccer.
“I am incredibly thankful to El Paso Locomotive FC—the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates—for welcoming me and allowing me to compete from day one,” he added.

“This journey back to professional soccer is all about self-belief, taking risks, and pursuing your dreams, no matter how unconventional the route may seem. Maybe I’m just an ambitious dreamer, but being with the ‘Locos’ feels absolutely right.”
Coach Junior Gonzalez remarked, “Cristo is a fantastic addition to our team, bringing an exciting attacking option to our forward line.”
