There’s an enchanting atmosphere in those moments just before the FA Cup final begins. The sound of trumpets, the glint of tin-foil trophies, players radiating tension comparable to that of their devoted supporters, and managers pacing the sidelines in their formal club attire. It’s a time filled with the promise of a new hero stepping into the spotlight.
However, some goals transcend the ordinary and become part of FA Cup legend, appearing in highlight reels for decades. These are the memorable strikes, bursts of individual brilliance, and the game-changing moments that led to unexpected triumphs.

Charlie George – Arsenal vs Liverpool, 1971
This celebration is etched in our memories: Charlie George, donned in yellow, lying back with outstretched arms, lifting his head, his scruffy sideburns visible before he’s swamped by his Arsenal teammates after scoring the decisive goal against Liverpool in the dying minutes of extra time.
You can almost feel the fatigue in his burning quads and cramping calves as he exchanges passes before unleashing a powerful shot past Ray Clemence from the edge of the box, clinching a league and cup double for Arsenal.

“As soon as it left my foot, I knew it was a goal,” remarked the unpredictable Gunners forward.
Ray Parlour – Arsenal vs Chelsea, 2002
Ray Parlour was not known for his goal-scoring prowess; in fact, he had found the net only once in his previous 37 appearances that season before the FA Cup final against Chelsea in 2002.
Yet the ‘Romford Pele’ had a knack for delivering when it mattered most. With 20 minutes remaining at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, his curls were visible weaving through blue shirts to collect a pass from Sylvain Wiltord.
Initially looking to pass, he suddenly spotted an opening 30 yards out as William Gallas and Marcel Desailly retreated, and he expertly curled a shot past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.
Just ten minutes later, Freddie Ljungberg would add a remarkable solo goal of his own to secure victory for Arsenal.
