Disgraceful Treatment of…

We sought your opinions on James Tavernier‘s tumultuous farewell at Ibrox after the outgoing captain opted out of the squad for his last match, once he learned he wouldn’t be starting.

Here’s what some of you had to say:

Phil: It’s a disgrace that such a loyal servant with over 500 appearances was not selected for a meaningless match. The defending in recent games has been abysmal; we’ve taken a step backward.

David: Very disappointing if Tavernier was fit but not picked to start. We might need to add respecting our loyal club servant to the list of Danny Rohl’s shortcomings.

Mari: It was unacceptable to leave Tav out of his last match at Ibrox. The manager has harmed his own reputation with that decision. Shame on you, Rohl.

Rab: Tav should have been in the starting lineup. This isn’t how Rangers honors a long-serving player. I disagree with Rohl’s rationale, and for the first time in my 64 years of following Rangers, I believe the current manager deserves to be replaced. He does not understand the club or its fans, but I would be glad to be proven wrong.

Alex: While it’s true that Tav’s time with Rangers was coming to an end, the way he was treated was shameful. He deserved much better. Did Rangers not learn from the Lee Wallace situation? Clearly not. Shame on Rangers, shame on Rohl. This incident highlights that Rohl is not fit for the club and should be dismissed.

James: He should have been in the starting lineup, plain and simple. Rohl has disrespected Tav.

Liam: Rohl has now lost four consecutive matches—something that hasn’t happened in 26 years. Russell Martin had a better record throughout his entire tenure at Rangers, and that’s concerning. Moreover, he has denied a legend, a player who has been with the club for 11 years and is a Hall of Famer, a proper farewell at Ibrox. Rohl should be sacked immediately.

Wilma: Rohl should have started Tav to give him a proper send-off. It’s not Tav’s fault we find ourselves in this predicament; it’s the fault of the other players who aren’t good enough to wear the blue jersey.
