Onana Eyeing Manchester…

Andre Onana intends to report for pre-season training at Manchester United, despite being aware that the club is looking to transfer him this summer.

At the beginning of the season, Onana lost his starting position to Altay Bayindir. Since that time, Belgium international Senne Lammens has taken on the role of United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Onana will finish his loan period at Trabzonspor on Friday during the Turkish Cup final against Konyaspor.

Manchester United is set to commence pre-season training in mid-July, leading up to their first friendly match against Wrexham in Helsinki on July 18, just one day before the World Cup final.

As a small group of senior United players not participating in the World Cup, it is expected that they will form the core of the squad for the Wrexham match, with assistance from numerous academy players.

Both Lammens and Bayindir are anticipated to be at the World Cup, while veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is nearing the signing of a new one-year contract.

Will Murdock started for United’s Under-21 team in their Premier League 2 final loss to Brighton, with Under-18 goalkeeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes on the bench. Additionally, the future of Radek Vitek, who excelled during his loan at Bristol City, remains undecided.

It is uncertain whether Onana will participate in the Wrexham match if his future with the club remains unclear, or if he will be sidelined, similar to last summer when Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony were grouped into a ‘bomb squad’ by Ruben Amorim and instructed to train at different times from the main first team.

Onana’s only match for United this season was the disappointing EFL Cup loss to League Two’s Grimsby.

He has featured in 29 league matches for Trabzonspor this season, helping the team secure a third-place finish and European qualification ahead of Friday’s final in Antalya.
