In recent months, there have been numerous reports linking Barcelona to Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. Simultaneously, discussions have emerged in Italy regarding the interest that the Nerazzurri have in a defender from the Blaugrana. After much speculation about his future, defender Ronald Araujo has become a focal point, especially after another season lacking a starting role.
Recent reports indicate that discussions regarding Bastoni have been put on hold by manager Hansi Flick. Meanwhile, Sporting Director Deco has reportedly reached an agreement with the Italian international and has established a tentative price for negotiations with Inter. However, Flick appears to have reservations about whether Bastoni fits within his tactical framework.

Inter keeping an eye on Ronald Araujo this summer
According to CdS (via Sport), Inter is also monitoring Araujo’s situation as a potential target for strengthening their defensive lineup this summer. It remains uncertain if Inter would contemplate including him in a deal for Bastoni, provided Flick approves. Additionally, another Barcelona target, Luka Vuskovic, is also on Inter’s radar.
Araujo hesitant to leave Barcelona
Despite the speculation, Araujo has shown little inclination to depart from Barcelona. Flick is planning to meet with Araujo to discuss his future, and the Uruguayan has expressed contentment at Camp Nou, where he remains under contract until 2030. However, Deco is likely aware that Araujo is among the club’s higher earners and has seen limited game time in the latter half of the season despite returning from a mental health break.
The 27-year-old has faced challenges in earning Flick’s trust. Although he has made 37 appearances this year, scoring four goals, he has only accumulated 1,570 minutes of play, with just 15 of those being starts. He has found himself behind players like Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, and Gerard Martin in the depth chart.
