In a recent interview, Keith Wyness, the former chief executive of Everton, revealed that Sunderland is interested in signing Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott. Wyness commented:
“I don’t think Villa will gain any advantages moving forward. That bridge is burned now, and Elliott has the potential to thrive elsewhere. There are a few promoted clubs, particularly Sunderland, I’ve been hearing may be in the running for him.”
“It’s unfortunate to see how this has unfolded and it should have been handled differently. The authorities should have had a mechanism to make exceptions in such cases, and regulations need to be revised if that’s not the case.”
Elliott’s Underwhelming Loan Experience at Aston Villa
Elliott’s loan at Aston Villa has been disappointing, as he has struggled to secure a regular spot in Unai Emery’s starting lineup this season. The young talent has made nine appearances for the Villans, finding the net just once across all competitions.
The 23-year-old remains contracted to Liverpool until the end of next season, which may present Sunderland with an opportunity to acquire him at a reduced price later this year.

Should Sunderland Manager Regis Le Bris Pursue Elliott?
Elliott is an agile dribbler with impressive ball control, capable of making powerful runs down the flanks. He can strike from distance with precision and has the vision to deliver critical passes in attacking positions. Though primarily an attacking midfielder, he is also versatile enough to play as a box-to-box midfielder or a right winger when necessary.
However, to revitalize his career, Elliott needs consistent first-team action. This makes a move to Sunderland potentially appealing for him at this stage of his career.
Bringing Elliott on board could enhance the quality and depth of Regis Le Bris’ attacking options. He possesses the skills to compete for regular playing time at the Stadium of Light next season.
At just 23, Elliott’s future remains bright, provided he continues to develop in the coming years. Consequently, it would be wise for Le Bris to consider signing him this summer.
