Barcelona has officially signed Anthony Gordon, an England forward, from Newcastle United, on a five-year deal.
ESPN sources indicate the transfer is worth an initial €70 million ($81.7 million), with the potential to exceed €80 million ($93.3 million) through add-ons.
Barcelona acted swiftly to secure Gordon, especially with interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the 25-year-old.

ESPN reported on Wednesday that Barcelona and Newcastle had settled on a transfer fee, with Gordon flying to Catalonia on Thursday to undergo a medical.
“This is the biggest club in the world,” Gordon remarked during a brief presentation. “It’s a childhood dream come true to be here.”
“I understand the responsibilities that come with this, yet I’m prepared and eager for the challenge ahead,” he added.
“I recognize the legacy of those who have worn this shirt, and I’m ready to embrace it. I am enthusiastic about this journey.”
Gordon made a memorable first appearance for Barça, impressing attendees by answering several questions in Spanish, even though the event was delayed by more than eight hours due to paperwork complications.
“I wanted to learn Spanish since I always envisioned myself playing for Barça,” he explained. “Back at Newcastle, I had a Spanish physio, and I frequently mentioned my ambitions to play for Barcelona. That’s how my language skills developed.”
Following this, he will join the England squad for the World Cup, having been selected in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-player roster.
Gordon’s arrival at Barça aligns with an offensive restructuring requested by coach Hansi Flick this summer.
Known primarily for his left-wing play, he is also adaptable enough to play centrally, enhancing a forward line that includes Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
“I’m thrilled to be joining forces with Lamine and the other players. The more quality you have around you, the better your game will be,” Gordon stated.
“These teammates are at the pinnacle for a reason; they’re the best in the world. I’ve already had a conversation with Hansi Flick, which increased my excitement. He seems like a fantastic person and an exceptional manager. I look forward to achieving great things together.”
“Winning anything at Barça is special, and my goal is to compete for every trophy. The Champions League, in particular, is a remarkable title to win. Securing the club’s sixth European Cup would be iconic.”
Barcelona is also in pursuit of a central striker following Robert Lewandowski‘s announcement to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract in June.
After acquiring Gordon, ESPN reported that Barça now aims to sign Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, whose valuation exceeds €100 million.
It remains uncertain how Gordon’s signing will impact fellow England international Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona holds an option to sign him this summer for €30 million, following a season where he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists while on loan at Spotify Camp Nou.
Sources indicate that acquiring Gordon does not rule out a potential deal for Rashford, though Barça hopes to negotiate either a fee or set up another loan arrangement with Manchester United.
After progressing through the youth ranks of Liverpool and Everton, Gordon secured his position in the Everton first team following a loan stint with Preston North End.
He transferred to Newcastle for a fee that could rise to €50 million in 2023, and during his three years at the club, he has scored 39 goals in 152 matches.
